# Smart field: Name

The Name smart field helps respondents enter names using characters that make sense for names. It blocks numbers and most symbols, while allowing common name characters such as periods, commas, hyphens, and apostrophes.

It can also auto-capitalize words while respondents type, helping you collect cleaner name data.

Name fields are useful when you need cleaner personal-name data instead of a generic text answer.

## Settings

After adding a Name smart field to your survey or form, click or tap on it to activate edit mode and access the settings panel.
