Find out which money concepts need a clearer explanation. This SurveyLegend template combines four short knowledge questions with three questions about learning needs.

Someone can feel confident about money and still find an interest calculation confusing. Another learner may understand the calculation but hesitate to use it. Keep knowledge answers and confidence separate when planning a workshop.

When to Use This Template

Use this questionnaire before a general financial education session for adults. The examples are hypothetical and do not recommend accounts, loans or investments. If you need session expectations and practice barriers instead, use SurveyLegend's pre-training survey .

7 Financial Knowledge Survey Questions

These questions help an instructor plan a basic money-skills session. The numbers are hypothetical. Answer without looking up the examples, or choose 'Not sure.' Every question is optional. No balances, income, debts or account information are requested. This is not financial advice or a certification test.

How to Adapt the Questionnaire

Keep the stated assumptions with each numerical example. If changing the currency, preserve the numbers and arithmetic or check the new answer key. Explain who reviews responses and that participation will not determine eligibility for a financial product. Ask for hypothetical examples only. SurveyLegend's guidance on sensitive questions can help keep unnecessary private details out of the form.

When to Ask

Collect answers before the instructor finalizes examples. Give the same instructions to each learner. If repeating the questions after a session, explain that familiarity with the same items may influence results; a change alone does not prove lasting learning.

How to Use the Responses

For instructor review, Q1 is $210: $200 plus $10 interest. Q2 is $10.50: 5% of $210. Q3 is less than the original basket. Q4 is the statement about reducing dependence on one company while losses remain possible. Review each item separately, showing answered, incorrect, 'not sure' and skipped counts. Do not count a blank as an incorrect answer or create a validated literacy score. Low confidence despite correct answers suggests useful practice; incorrect answers despite confidence suggest checking the explanation. Use Q6 and Q7 to choose examples rather than inferring anyone's financial behavior.

What the Research Adds

Lusardi, Mitchell, and Curto's 2009 working paper examines “interest rates, inflation, and risk diversification” using National Longitudinal Survey of Youth data. These domains give a useful educational focus for the original examples here. The historical U.S. study does not validate this questionnaire, establish a current population estimate, or equate knowledge with financial well-being. Read the financial literacy study .

Frequently asked questions

Is this a validated financial literacy scale?

No. These are original educational questions for workshop planning. They do not reproduce a standardized instrument or its scoring rules.

Does the template recommend investments?

No. It checks general concepts with hypothetical examples and does not assess individual suitability or recommend products.

Should learners see the answers first?

For an initial knowledge check, provide explanations after responses. This public example includes the instructor key, so it is unsuitable for a secure or high-stakes test.

Print all seven questions and complete choices. Keep the answer explanations on a clearly separate instructor sheet, not on the respondent questionnaire. Preserve assumptions, optional settings and space for the final learning question. Paper responses need separate review or manual entry; they are not automatically added to online results.
