A minimum wage survey asks how people view a clearly described wage-floor proposal and which considerations shape their answers. These seven optional questions separate support, expected effects, priorities and uncertainty.

“Should the minimum wage change?” can mean different things to different people. Specify the proposal's location, amount, coverage and timing before asking for an opinion. Create your questionnaire in SurveyLegend with the same neutral description for every respondent.

When to Use This Template

Use this template for nonpartisan research or a structured discussion with adults. Supply a short hypothetical proposal rather than implying an unverified change is law. Record its exact wording with the results. Do not use the questionnaire to assign people to persuasion campaigns.

7 Minimum Wage Survey Questions

Read the supplied hypothetical minimum-wage proposal before answering. The proposal is an example, not a statement of current law. All questions are optional. There are no preferred answers, and you may say that you are unsure. Do not include employer names or personal income details.

How to Adapt the Questionnaire

Write one neutral scenario with a location, currency, proposed hourly amount, implementation date and covered workers. Label every invented detail hypothetical. If using an actual proposal, verify its official text and date separately. Remove advocacy slogans and review the draft for leading questions . Keep the balanced scales and uncertainty choices.

When to Ask

Use the same scenario during a defined collection period. If the proposal changes, label the new version rather than combining the results as though everyone answered the same question. Keep research invitations separate from campaign fundraising or targeted advocacy.

How to Use the Responses

Report support, certainty and expected effects separately. A respondent's prediction is a belief, not evidence that the policy will have that effect. Do not infer motives from a single priority choice. Explain how participants were recruited; an open online link cannot establish what all residents think. SurveyLegend's probability sampling overview helps distinguish a sampling plan from a voluntary-response poll.

What the Research Adds

Lennon and colleagues' 2019 choice experiment used “hypothetical employment outcomes” to examine minimum-wage preferences. Read the study . It supports distinguishing policy preferences from beliefs about consequences. This template asks for those beliefs separately; it does not reproduce the experiment or predict employment effects.

Frequently asked questions

Does this survey tell respondents what policy to support?

No. It collects views about one neutrally stated proposal and includes opposition, support and uncertainty.

Can the results predict job losses or gains?

No. Questions about effects measure respondents' expectations, not actual economic outcomes.

Is an open-link survey representative of residents?

Not by itself. Report recruitment, response numbers and limitations, and use an appropriate sampling design for population estimates.
