A resident feedback form should lead to a better place to live. These seven questions focus on recent communication, repairs, shared spaces and the improvement that matters most.

The most useful resident feedback describes an actual property and time period. SurveyLegend lets a property team adapt a short questionnaire for residents while keeping emergency and repair requests in the proper service channel.

When to use this template

Use this form for a periodic check on a named apartment property, after telling residents how grouped answers will guide improvements. To collect sensitive concerns without personal attribution, consider the anonymous feedback guidance. A survey cannot replace a repair-request or emergency system.

7 questions for your resident feedback form

Think about the past three months at your apartment property. Skip questions you cannot answer. For urgent repairs, hazards or individual cases, use the property's direct reporting channel rather than this form.

Customize your resident feedback form

Name the property and replace shared-space options with areas residents actually use. Keep “did not request maintenance” and “not applicable” options. Tell residents whether responses are anonymous and how feedback differs from the formal complaint or repair channel.

How to use the answers

Group answers by issue without displaying tiny cohorts or making assumptions about individual homes. Pair a reported problem with inspection and service records before setting a priority; publish a concrete follow-up to residents. A reported sense of safety is a perception, not a verified hazard assessment.

Potter, Chicoine and colleagues surveyed residents of three renovated housing buildings and examined management, wayfinding, safety, comfort and adequacy. Their university-hosted abstract reports “Safety and perception were significant for all buildings”. This small comparative case supports asking about shared-space experience and perception, while offering no benchmark for other properties. Source: Potter et al. (2001) . These SurveyLegend questions are original and have not been validated against that research.

Frequently asked questions

Can this form replace a maintenance request?

No. Tell residents where to report a repair or urgent safety issue directly, because a survey is not a service queue.

Should the form ask for an apartment number?

Leave it out by default. If a resident wants follow-up, offer a separate optional contact route and state how it will be used.

What should managers do with the answers?

Identify repeat themes, inspect the property and communicate which improvement will be made and when.
