When to use this online dating survey
Use this SurveyLegend example with adults who used one named dating app or website during the past 30 days. Keep the focus on their experience of the service. People can value the chance to meet someone while finding profiles or conversations frustrating, so give those experiences separate questions.
What the answers help you decide
The answers can point to unclear profile prompts, difficulty expressing intentions, or controls that people struggle to find. Start with the respondent's purpose instead of assuming everyone wants the same kind of connection. Review findings as opportunities for further research rather than judgments about someone's desirability or relationship prospects.
Seven questions for your online dating survey
This voluntary survey is for adults who used the named dating service during the past 30 days. Every question is optional. Describe the service experience only; do not share usernames, screenshots, private messages, identifying details or sexual history. Use the service's separate reporting route for an issue requiring a response.

Adapt the online dating survey to your audience
State the service name without collecting account identifiers. Keep motive choices open and allow people to skip questions about profiles or conversations. SurveyLegend’s sensitive questions article explains why context and a genuine option not to answer matter. Check privacy settings and explain who will review comments before inviting responses.

Provide paper only where participants can complete and return it privately. Keep the service name and 30-day window consistent, and do not ask people to read their answers aloud. Paper responses need separate review or entry; they are not automatically added to online results.

Interpret your online dating survey responses
Separate profile clarity from conversation difficulty: a respondent may know how to present themselves but still struggle to start an exchange. Keep did-not-try and did-not-look responses outside difficulty ratings. Group requested changes using SurveyLegend’s open-ended data guidance, and remove identifying details before sharing summaries. Perceived clarity does not establish that another person's statements are true, and knowledge of controls does not establish safety.
Adamczyk, Janowicz and Mrozowicz-Wrońska identify “acquiring skills in using dating services” as a theme in interviews with 30 Polish never-married singles (abstract; 2024 issue, first online 2022). Their online dating study informs the separation of profile and conversation tasks here. These original questions do not reproduce their interview method or assess relationship success.
Frequently asked questions
Can this survey match people with partners?
No. It collects feedback about a dating service. It does not compare profiles, select partners or measure compatibility.
Should respondents share messages as examples?
No. Ask for a general description of the service issue without usernames, private messages or details that identify another person.
Do clearer controls mean the service is safe?
No. The item records how easy it seems to find relevant controls. It does not test how those controls work or establish anyone's safety.
