This coffee tasting survey lets adult tasters compare coded brews by aroma, acidity, sweetness, balance and overall preference, one sample at a time.

A high overall score will not tell a roaster whether a brew felt too bitter or lacked aroma. SurveyLegend helps a tasting host collect specific impressions while the samples can still be compared.

When to use this template

Use one response for each coded brew under a consistent tasting setup. The coffee shop survey covers service and visits; this version stays with the brewed sample itself. Participation should be voluntary, with ingredients and suitability information supplied separately.

7 coffee tasting survey questions

Taste only if the organizer has confirmed the sample is suitable for you. Consider the coded brew named by the organizer, answer for that sample only, and skip anything you cannot judge. Do not include health details.

Customize your coffee tasting survey

Use actual neutral sample codes, explain serving temperature and roast type, and keep those conditions consistent where practical. Use separate answer sets per brew. A sweetened coffee changes the meaning of sweetness; specify whether tasters may add anything. For general recipe testing beyond coffee, use the food evaluation form.

Print the same seven optional items for each coded brew; give room for the final tasting note. Keep sample cards and forms matched, and manually review paper replies rather than claiming they appear online.

How to use the answers

Separate results by sample and note the number of tasters and preparation conditions. If one brew has high aroma ratings but low balance, investigate the roast or preparation before changing a product. These subjective answers cannot prove safety, nutrition or future sales.

Pinsuwan and colleagues studied eight brewed black-coffee samples with trained panelists and 100 consumers. The university-hosted abstract says differences were described by attributes including “roasted, bitter taste, balance/blended and fullness”. That informed separate sensory questions here; their study in Thailand does not validate this original form or make attribute preferences universal. Source: Pinsuwan et al. (2022) .

Frequently asked questions

Should every taster evaluate the same samples?

For a comparison, define the same set and record serving conditions. You can review incomplete sets separately.

Does this rate the café visit?

No. It focuses on the brew's sensory experience; the coffee shop survey addresses service and setting.

Can this establish product safety?

No. Use the appropriate food-safety and suitability process outside this preference survey.
