Follow the consumer brand funnel over time
A tracking survey is valuable only when each wave measures the same task in a comparable way. This template begins with unaided recall before revealing the tracked brand, then moves through familiarity, consideration or use, the source shaping perception, comparative value, future consideration, and one barrier. Explore related design templates when the research task concerns creative work or another branding decision.
When to use B2C brand tracking
Use this survey for repeated consumer waves in a defined product or service category. Specify the category, named brand, market, audience, and 90-day reference period before fielding. The page owns a compact consumer funnel tracker. Use brand awareness for a focused one-time recall and recognition study, brand perception for associations and image, or target market research for audience fit.

Design comparable tracking waves
Replace “named category” and “named brand” with precise respondent-facing language, but do not reveal the brand before unaided recall. Keep the question order, response scales, 90-day period, recruitment source, market, and weighting rules stable across waves. Add competitor-specific questions only after the core tracker and rotate competitor order where appropriate. Pilot the survey to ensure respondents can distinguish category consideration, brand consideration, shortlisting, and purchase or use. Never label a movement as market share or sales growth without the necessary behavioral data.
Printable B2C brand tracker
The printable version is useful for facilitated interviews, workshops, or field research without reliable internet. It preserves question order so unaided recall appears before the tracked brand. Keep the brand name hidden until question two when administering the paper form. Handwritten responses must be stored and entered securely and do not sync to SurveyLegend.

Copy the prompt and replace the category, brand, market, and audience placeholders. Review the final order carefully so the brand is not disclosed before unaided recall.

How to read a brand tracking wave
Report unaided recall before familiarity because later brand exposure can contaminate recall. Then examine the funnel stages separately: familiarity, category activity, brand consideration, shortlisting, and purchase or use. Cross-tab the main influence source and comparative value with future consideration, while keeping “not enough information” visible instead of forcing it into a neutral score. Code the open barrier by controllable themes such as price, proof, availability, relevance, trust, or experience.
Chen and colleagues describe brand knowledge as “the degree to which consumers are familiar with, recall, and identify a brand.” Their brand study analyzed 475 valid self-selected responses from fresh-food e-commerce customers in mainland China. The cross-sectional, category-specific study does not validate this tracker, prove causality, forecast sales, or generalize to every market. Compare waves only after checking sample composition, field dates, wording, channel, and weighting.
Frequently asked questions
Why must unaided recall come first?
Showing the tracked brand can make it easier to remember. Asking recall first protects the meaning of the unaided response and keeps the sequence comparable across waves.
Can these questions produce one brand-health score?
SurveyLegend can collect and summarize the answers, but this original questionnaire does not define a scientifically validated composite score. Report the measures separately unless a documented scoring model has been developed and tested for the specific use case.
How often should a brand tracker run?
Choose a cadence that matches how quickly the category, media activity, and buying cycle can change. More frequent waves are not automatically better. Keep the cadence and sampling method stable and record campaigns or market events that may affect interpretation.
