This conflict management survey asks employees whether they know where to get help with a workplace disagreement and what would happen next. Use it to improve the clarity and accessibility of the support process.

A written procedure is only useful if employees can find it and understand how to use it. This SurveyLegend template reviews that practical access. It does not ask employees to name another person, describe an allegation, or label their own conflict style.

When to use this survey

Use the survey when reviewing how everyday work disagreements are handled or after communicating an updated support process. It can reveal gaps between having a procedure and knowing how to navigate it. Keep formal complaints, urgent concerns and individual case handling in the organization's established reporting channels.

7 questions for your conflict management survey

These questions concern how to find help with a workplace disagreement. They are not a way to submit a complaint or request urgent assistance. Use the reporting channels provided above for an individual concern. You may skip any question. Do not include names or details of a specific incident.

Customize your conflict management survey

Use the names of the actual support routes in the introduction and have the responsible team check them before sharing. Do not promise anonymity unless the setup and reporting approach support that claim. SurveyLegend's article on sensitive questions explains why purpose, response access and optional answers need attention. Keep open text focused on process changes; do not turn it into an incident log.

Provide a printable version where employees cannot easily access an online survey. Arrange a private return route and explain who reviews the forms. Do not leave completed copies in an open shared area. Paper answers need a controlled review or entry process.

How to use the answers

Review each clarity question separately. Many “I have not seen an explanation” responses may point to a communication gap; difficulty accessing a known route points to a different problem. Keep “prefer not to answer” distinct from lack of awareness. Review suggestions using open-ended data principles, remove identifying details from summaries, and route unexpected individual disclosures through the organization's established process. Low complaint counts and favorable survey responses do not prove that disagreements are resolved fairly. Share the process changes you can make and how employees can find the updated information.

Research connection: Katz and Flynn (2013) examined leaders’ and managers’ “awareness, perception, and use” of workplace conflict management systems in a Florida pilot study, as described in the abstract. Their conflict management study motivates checking whether a process is understood as well as whether it exists. SurveyLegend adapts that question to employees’ access and clarity. The local management-focused pilot does not represent all employees or prove that this original questionnaire measures resolution quality.

Frequently asked questions

Does this identify someone's conflict style?

No. It asks about the organization's support process, not personality or a psychological conflict-style profile.

Can employees submit complaints through it?

This version is not a complaint channel. Provide the actual reporting routes separately and plan how responsible staff will handle any unexpected disclosure.

Does high awareness prove the process works?

No. Knowing where to get help is different from receiving fair and effective support. Review process access alongside appropriately handled operational evidence.
