A parental social support survey asks what help parents and caregivers can access for themselves. Use these seven optional questions to distinguish practical assistance, someone to talk with, useful information, and barriers to getting support.

Knowing several people is not the same as having help when it is needed. A parent might have someone who listens but no practical backup for a busy day. Create this questionnaire in SurveyLegend to plan support around those differences.

When to Use This Template

Use this template before choosing services for a parent group or family-resource program. It asks about support available to adults in their parenting role. If your question is how parents support a child's learning, use the separate parental support survey .

7 Parental Social Support Survey Questions

Think about support available to you as a parent or caregiver during the past four weeks. Every question is optional. Do not name other people or provide private information about a child. This questionnaire helps plan services; it is not an application for immediate help.

How to Adapt the Questionnaire

Define which program is asking and what it can realistically consider. Use parent and caregiver language that includes different family arrangements. Keep the distinction between available help and help that fits the need. Explain exactly who reads responses and avoid promising anonymity without checking collection settings; SurveyLegend's anonymous feedback article can help plan that discussion.

When to Ask

Ask before a service-planning decision and leave time to review responses with parent representatives. Avoid collecting these answers in a public group discussion. Offer a separate contact route for someone seeking individual help; a planning survey may not be monitored promptly.

How to Use the Responses

Review practical help, emotional support and information separately. Do not sum them into a parenting or well-being score. Look for mismatches: frequent help can still be unsuitable, and a small network may provide what someone needs. Combine the leading barrier with the preferred service to choose a realistic pilot. Avoid small-group breakdowns that could identify a family.

What the Research Adds

Kuusiaho and colleagues' 2025 study followed 287 Finnish first-time parents during the pandemic and emphasized the “experience of sufficiency.” Read the study . That finding informs the question about whether support fits a parent's needs. Associations with distress in that specific setting do not prove causation or validate this service-planning questionnaire for other parent groups.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a parenting-skills assessment?

No. It asks about support available to parents, not how well they parent or support a child's schoolwork.

Should the form ask for children's names?

No. Names and child records are unnecessary for this service-planning task.

Does a low support rating identify a mental health condition?

No. These answers have no diagnostic interpretation or clinical cutoff. Use them only to understand reported support needs.
