Use this preschool parent survey to review communication during the past four weeks. Seven optional questions ask about contact routes, updates, language access, workable timing, response experience, the main barrier and one improvement.

Ask About Recent Preschool Communication

Name the preschool, the four-week reference period and who will review the answers. Invite parents and caregivers who had little or no contact as well as those who communicated often. Explain the normal feedback route and provide a separate urgent or safeguarding contact; a routine survey should not be the only place to report an immediate concern.

Research Context for Family–Teacher Relationships

Zulauf-McCurdy and colleagues interviewed parents, preschool teachers and a family coordinator about barriers to supportive relationships. Their abstract reports: “Results suggest six major barriers, each crossing several PPCT levels affecting the process between parents and teachers.” Read the preschool study . The finding supports asking about several access conditions rather than blaming one person. The small qualitative, post-pandemic sample from two organizations limits generalization.

7 Preschool Parent Survey Questions

Keep every question optional. Ask about communication access and the parent or caregiver’s recent experience, not the child’s diagnosis, behavior record or the adult’s worth as a parent. Include not applicable and no-contact choices where they prevent forced answers.

Adapt the Survey to Your Preschool

Replace generic channel and timing choices with the preschool’s real contact routes. Offer the languages and accessible formats that can actually be supported, without asking families to justify a preference. If classrooms use different systems, name the classroom or program but avoid collecting a child’s full name in open responses. Test translated versions with fluent community reviewers, not only automated translation.

Printable Preschool Parent Survey Template

The printable version should mirror all seven online questions, show the four-week period and leave space for the final open response. Provide a sealed return box or another private route and print the urgent contact separately. Paper answers require manual review and are not automatically combined with online responses.

How to Use the Answers

Review contact-route clarity, update usefulness, language and format access, timing and channels, and feeling listened to as separate fields. Group the main barriers, then read open comments for the concrete circumstances behind them. Compare patterns across communication routes only when groups are large enough to protect families and staff. Do not create a family-engagement score. Choose one change with a named owner and review period, then tell families what will be tested.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a K–12 parent survey?

This seven-question survey focuses on recent communication access in a preschool setting. SurveyLegend’s broader K–12 parent survey covers more of the school experience, academics and programs.

Should the survey ask for a child’s name?

Usually not for a program-level communication review. If follow-up requires contact details, collect the minimum needed in a clearly explained separate field and protect access to it.

Can this survey handle urgent concerns?

No. Provide an immediate phone, in-person or safeguarding route outside the survey and state when routine feedback will be reviewed.
