This homeschool survey template asks parents about resources, support, and opportunities they would find useful. Use it to plan a group’s next offering without assuming that every homeschooling household has the same needs.

A parent looking for curriculum resources may need different support from someone seeking group activities or another adult to exchange ideas with. This SurveyLegend questionnaire helps a support organization hear those differences directly.

When to use this survey

Use it before planning resources or activities for a defined homeschooling community. Invite adults with varied levels of experience, not only the most active members. An email survey can reach an existing group, but add other appropriate channels if you want to hear from families outside that mailing list.

7 questions for your homeschool survey

Answer as a parent or guardian currently homeschooling. Think about the past month and the support you would find useful next. All questions are optional. Do not include children’s names, health information, grades or home addresses.

Customize your homeschool survey

Name the organization and the kinds of support it can realistically offer. Keep responses at the household level without collecting children’s records. If planning an activity, collect registration or accommodation details through a separate appropriate process. Avoid using this form to judge whether a family should homeschool.

Printable homeschool survey

Offer the blank questionnaire at a community meeting or through a private return option. Parents should be able to describe a support need without discussing their child in front of other families. Keep the questions identical to the online version.

How to use the answers

Compare resource needs and preferred support formats without treating experience length as expertise. Group open-ended data into resources, routines and connections where those themes appear. Choose an offering the organization can deliver and explain how feedback shaped it. These parent reports do not measure children’s achievement or compare schooling approaches.

Danielle Miller’s 2017 master’s thesis interviewed mothers from five homeschooling families in Minnesota. Its abstract identifies “the importance of support systems” among the themes. The homeschool parent thesis informs the questions about resources and peer support. The small qualitative sample does not represent all homeschooling families, compare educational outcomes or validate this original questionnaire.

Frequently asked questions

Should children fill out this version?

This version asks adults about resources and support. A child-facing questionnaire needs a different purpose, age-appropriate wording and participation process.

Does it compare homeschooling with other schooling?

No. It identifies support needs within a defined group. It does not evaluate educational outcomes.

Can it register families for an activity?

Use a separate registration form once the offering is confirmed. This survey collects planning input without children’s identifying records.
