How to adapt the questions

Keep the activity and four-week reference period visible in the introduction. Replace generic supports with options the organization can deliver. For written comments added later, plan a consistent open-ended analysis method before collection.

Use a printable version

Use the printable version during a scheduled follow-up meeting or team learning review. Provide a private return route if managers are present, and explain that paper answers are entered into a separate review process rather than the online results. The downloadable file must be the real blank questionnaire; paper answers are not automatically added to online results.

How to interpret responses

Compare application frequency with the reported support, barrier and requested follow-up. A “not yet” answer can reflect lack of opportunity rather than poor learning. Iqbal and AlSheikh (2018) described workplace transfer as a training transfer study involving a “complex and multidimensional process,” grouped around trainee characteristics, training design and environmental factors. Use those areas as interpretation prompts, not as a score or proof that training caused an outcome.

Frequently asked questions

When should this survey be sent?

Usually after participants have had several weeks to try the learning. Four to six weeks is a practical starting point, but match the timing to real application opportunities.

Is this a training course evaluation?

No. Course evaluation captures immediate reactions to a session. This follow-up asks about workplace application, support, barriers and the next useful action.

Can the answers prove training effectiveness?

No. Self-reported application and observed change can guide follow-up, but they do not establish causation or independently verify performance improvement.
